Well here it is. My Blog Hop Competition
So Let's Make it a fun one
This blog hop is based around Valentines Day so I'm making my post about Valentine Cards.
Be My Valentine
In the spirit of this time of the year, let me share some love with you.
But how did the tradition of sending Valentine’s Cards begin? Let me offer one theory.
Way back in medieval times, there was a belief that birds started mating on February 14.
Maybe birds have some kind of inbuilt calendar.
In 1415, Charles, Duke of Orleans wrote love letters to his wife during his stay in prison. It’s possible these were the first Valentine messages. Later, during 16th century messages written on coloured paper, tinted with ink. Verses were often in Acrostic form, spelling the lovers name. A bit different to Hallmark!
However upon searching I found a history lesson
Now onto a bit of fun
And Finally as they say ...
Can you remember your first Valentine's Card?
Mine was from my first boyfriend, and inside he drew a map to his house lol!
The winning comment will receive their prize of a $10 Amazon GC in a few days
Good Luck to All
Competition closed at midnight 14 February
Congratulations to Mel
winner of this competition
My first Valentine cards were exchanged in first grade. You had to give one to everyone in your class. I would read them over and over thinking these people meant every word on them. Boy was I a fool back then. LOL
ReplyDeleteI also had my first card in first grade as well as a small party. The first card was from a boy who sat next to me and in the card he told me I "could " be his Valentine if I gave him my cookies and candy. Above it was the scribbled over words he originally wrote before he saw my candy lol I gave him his card back. I remember because I realized it was the first time someone tried to con me. :)

I think my first Valentine's Day card must have come from my Momma. And while she still sends my cards, it's much nicer to receive them now from my husband! :)

ReplyDeleteHm, I think it was in elementary school. We had to draw of opposite sex in our class,to whom we had to give a card, so nobody would be left out.
I got a card and chocolate heart, at that time I appreciated the chocolate a lot more than the card. lol
Thank you for the giveaway!

From my hubby, wonderful, sweet cards. The words are very important to him, it has to say what he feels.LOVE!
ReplyDeleteDebP r.d1@myfairpoint.net
Mine was in elementary school but it was from a friend of mine and more in the way of 'if we have to do it then you can have it', than in a romanctic way.

I don't remember the Valentine's cards I have received. I don't particularly celebrate it. But i do have a note from my husband that he wrote me when we were first starting to date. We both had kids from a previous marriage and they stayed with my mom while we went to Springfield for a teaching conference. AS this was our real "first" time alone, it was very special. He wrote, "I Love You." on a sheet of the hotel stationary and placed it in my backpack I was carrying for the day. Imagine my surprise when I saw this!!! This was the first time he said it. We have been married for 14 years now.

A map to his house, that's SO cute!
ReplyDeleteI've never received a Valentine's card, since we don't celebrate it here (Iceland), but I do remember the first love letter I got when I was around 14. I had no idea what to do with it. I was too shy to even let him know I got it...so I probably hurt him :/ Would like to be able to go back and make myself talk to him.
