The searing sunrays that beat down with a fierce heat, cast a dark shadow from Lucy, in her white summer dress and wide belt onto the high wall.

Lucy wore only a hint of makeup, and her long blond hair hung loose and slightly bedraggled as the heat made it appear greasy. Although aged eighteen, she sometimes had to show her ID for proof of admittance into clubs, due to her being mistaken for someone younger.Maybe that was why Brad had never looked upon her as anything more than a good friend. And while Lucy respected this, she would rather have meant so much more to him.

Lucy pressed her slender body right against the bricks, their coolness being a welcome feeling against her. She  wished,however, that she could hear what was going on the other side, but the wall denied her that privilege. There was one noise however. A sudden high pitched shriek sounded, and as Lucy tried to distinguish in her mind it meant, she got her answer.

She turned her head, just as Brad walked around the corner, arm in arm with her sister. The unmistakable glint of a diamond ring came from her left hand.

Gutted.
