Weekend Writing Warriors
George realized that Beth had rallied up a lot of courage to come and see him and speak so openly to him about her worries. After all, he hadn't spoken to Jake for about three years, ever since their big argument. He remembered though, that his wife, Grace, just before she died, had made him promise to make up with him. She'd have known what to say to Beth and how to cope with her son. He missed his wife so much.
After retrieving a small bottle of brandy from a cupboard, George poured a small amount into a glass. “I keep a bottle in for medicinal purposes,” he explained. “I thought you could use a drop.”
As Beth said thank you, and reached to take the glass from him, however, her purse dropped from her lap and fell open. A photograph of a small girl with curly hair fell out of it.
