Guest Interview #4 - with Robin Badillo

25 February

Today, Robin Badillo takes the stage
Welcome a very interesting lady

Great to see you Robin. Come in, sit down.
First things first, name your poison.

Vodka and Cranberry, please

Yummy

ow, please take the microphone and tell us about yourself. The basics.

I’m a Texas born and raised, down to earth country girl. According to my kids, I’m older than dirt, but in human years, I’m 42.
I am a widow with four kids, all under the age of 20, three of which are still at home. I am a mom by day and a super hero by night. I am a lover of all things funny, sexy or football. (Go Houston!!)
At the end of the day when all is said and done, I am and always will be a Kool-Aid kind of girl. No frills, nothing fancy, just little ol’ me.

And what got you into writing?

I have always had an interest in writing. As a teenager, it was poetry. As I grew older, married and had children, it shifted more toward journals or even letters to my husband. He used to tease that I never gave him a love letter, I wrote novels.
After he passed away five years ago, I decided to make some changes and do things I never thought I could. Ten novels later, I can picture elate very well to thathim now, shaking his head in heaven, proud that I followed my dreams and started living my life to its fullest.

Admirable. The best way to live it.
Do you get any support?

My kids and friends have been amazing. My little sister has even gotten on board and read some of my work and she isn’t a novel reader. My step-mom, Margaret, is probably one of my biggest fans. She’s read everything I’ve ever written and some things more than once.

Do you have a favourite genre to write in?

At first I mainly wrote paranormal romance novels involving vampires. I added contemporary southern themed romances to that this past year. I plan to take whatever path my muse leads me down, so there may never be limits as to what genre may pop up in the future.

Mmm you never can tell. How do you get your ideas?

I love telling where my ideas come from, just because so many people can relate. I actually hear voices. Crazy, right? Not at all. My characters often talk to me or each other and scenes play out in my head like a movie. Getting it down on paper is the hard part.

I can so relate to that. Hey, do you have any fave books?

I have a couple of favourite books. Last year I read Water for Elephants and fell in love with the idea of running away with the circus. As a single mom of teenagers, sometimes I feel like I already have. Training elephants and walking a tightrope may be tons more interesting that what I do now.

And is who has influenced you most

I read a variety of genres, so there isn’t one author who’s influenced me. However, several lesser known authors, whom I know personally, have indeed, inspired me. Not necessarily because of what they write, but because of who they are as people.

Would you like to attempt a completely different genre. Just out of interest

I’ve always had a love for historical novels, but I know I could never do one justice.

Oh you never know honey

When did you consider yourself a writer?

I first knew I had “arrived” when the UPS truck delivered my first batch of “swag”. I ordered refrigerator magnets, postcards, calendars and just about anything I could think of with my first cover on it. Seeing my name in print felt really good. I have a collection with each cover now and I hand them out to everyone, even the tellers in the drive-thru at the bank.

Who do you reckon is your favourite character from your books?

I do have a favourite character and his name is Jason Craft. He’s mentioned in book #1, The Beginning, of my Blood Hunter series and then shines brightly in books #2 and #3 of the same series. Jason is also now my full time muse and has helped me to get in touch with my inner “alpha male”. He’s held my hand through many twists and turns and reminds me that if I want a character to be a true hero, I have to think like one. I owe him so much.
You're getting quite accomplished honey :)

What's your latest?

My latest release, “Midnight Beckoning”, debuted in November. I have several stories I’m working on, but none set to release anytime soon. I have vowed to take 2012 in stride and not overdo it like I did 2011. Burnout is not a good thing for a writer, so a slower, steady pace is in the cards for me.

Great going, give us the deets please

You can fine my books on my publisher’s site, Amazon and Fictionwise (a B&N company)

Tell us about your big break

To be honest, I am such a new writer, that I’m still waiting for my big break. Although I’m a patient woman, I do hope it comes soon. I’m not getting any younger, ya’ know.

I'm no spring chicken lol
Do you have a favourite place to write?

When my kids are home, I have very little privacy in our small house. While they are at school, I have my big comfy chair and a small table for my laptop. It has become a permanent fixture in the living room.
During those days that I have to edit, my bedroom is transformed into a “writing cave”. My chair, table and laptop are moved and the bedroom door stays shut. The kids shove food and drink under the door and do a great job not disturbing me. They stick their heads inside every few hours to make sure I’m still breathing, but for the most part, I’m left alone with my work and Pandora entertaining me with streaming music.

Just for fun, if you weren't a writer what would you be

If I had my druthers, I’d probably be a ROCKSTAR!!

Haha Rock on baby!!

Would the rocker care for another drink?

Yes, please!

Describe yourself in 5 words

Mother, dreamer, optimistic, ordinary, fluffy

Great writing characteristics eh?
Whats your current WIP?

I have another paranormal with more vampires and a parallel universe, a contemporary suspense romance, a romantic comedy and my soon to be introduced alter ego will have a “don’t ask don’t tell” military type story sometime in the future. 2012 is already booked with works in progress.

We'd love a sneaky look

Now? Why certainly!!

Midnight Beckoning ADULT Excerpt

Excerpt:
Ford’s hand twisted in the curls of her long crimson hair and he pulled her to him harder. Heat sifted down his body and the burn to his groin returned as hot as a roaring fire in the dead of winter.
She brought out the lust in him so easily. The angrier she became the more he craved the taste of her passionate flame.
Without hesitation, Ford ripped her blouse away, instantly sinking his fangs deep into her flesh. With the one exception of the chambermaid when he first awoke a damphyr, he’d never bitten anyone, not even for food. A slice of his razor sharp thumbnail always did the trick.
What he wanted now went beyond passion. This was a savage thirst for her, every last decadent drop of her.
Thick hot blood flooded his mouth and her sweet essence flowed down the back of his throat. He scooped her up and tossed her onto the bed tearing at his clothes and hers as he kissed her feverishly. Deep searing stings cut into his flesh as Lauren’s nails dug into his back. Heavy panting and a hunger he’d never felt before overwhelmed him from the inside out. Before he could stop himself, he bit into her again.
Lauren growled and gasped in a way that only accelerated his heartbeat. Powerful surges of energy electrified his body and he sucked hard at the soft curve of her throat, swallowing gulp after gulp of hot syrupy blood.
Lauren hissed and heat shot into his shoulder as she met his bite with a vicious plunge of her own fangs into him.
“Fuck!” he bellowed as pain burned through his back. “Do it again!” he demanded, overcome by a violent compulsion to consume and be consumed.
Lauren withdrew her fangs from his shoulder and attacked again, allowing her mouth to remain over the punctures as she drank his crimson offering.
Ford reached down, spread Lauren’s thighs and jammed himself inside of her, grinding in as deep as he could burrow.
Lauren growled and thrust her hips upward, meeting his vigorous plunge with an assault of her own. Ford pumped harder, matching her rhythmic pace, beat for erotic beat, while gorging himself on her precious essence.

  2. Wow Robin,
That's some intense stuff! Like me, you use biting as a sexual and sensual experience. I've always thought it would be. That is a five flame excerpt that should've had a disclaimer. WARNING: HOT STUFF AHEAD!!!! What a great interview, honey. And what a fabulous site. I love the graphics and colors.
