Thursday Tasters - 27 February: The Inheritance

It's Thursday and time for some awesome writers to give a short taster of their amazing work. It can be a WIP or completed work. So please show some love and leave a comment on their work. It helps and encourages each writer. This week my excerpt is another from the WIP called The Inheritance.
Frank has just come out of a boring lecture, and met up with fellow student, Saskia. Enjoy

Thursday Tasters

“Hey Saskia,‭ do you fancy a coffee?”‭ ‬Frank smiled warmly at a petite blonde student as she walked out of the lecture theatre.  He bent down and  picked up the books that Saskia, startled at his speaking to her, had dropped.‭ ‬“That was one boring lecture and I need waking up.‭ I wondered, would you like to join me,‭ ‬I could do with the company."

Saskia flicked her long blonde hair back and pondered a moment. Taking the books from him she pushed them into a bag.‭ “‬Yeah,‭ thank you. Coffee might be just what the doctor ordered. She looked up at Frank, who towered six inches higher than her. “Yes, I’d love to join you.” She gratefully passed the bag of heavy books back to him when he offered to carry them and they made the ten minute walk away from the main building..

‭Welcoming wafts of coffee and the clatter of cups and cutlery mingling with intense chatter greeted the pair as they arrived at the student cafeteria. The cafe seemed pretty crowded as always post boring lectures, but luckily Frank spotted a vacant table. “You go and bag that table,” he said. “Here, make doubly sure with the book bag. I’ll get the coffee.

‭Saskia squeezed through a myriad of people to the table in question and sat down to wait for Frank who had headed through in the opposite direction to buy the drinks. Sitting down, Saskia put the elbows of her pink top on the table, and with hands together rested her chin on them. She noted, glancing around, how there seemed to be an unwritten uniform rule that students should wear jeans. She was no exception either, her stylish skinny blue ones.

Before long, Frank returned with coffee and biscuits. “I thought I’d treat you,. I don’t know many of the students here yet and you are the first one I’ve brought here, such as it is.”

Saskia put her arms down and reached for a biscuit. Her ice blue eyes sparkled as she gave a little laugh. “I don’t know many yet either.”

Their hands accidentally brushed across the table and simultaneous electrical sparks were felt by both Frank and Saskia. She retracted her hand shyly, with a dreamy look.

Susie?” Reece called out.

“You found me, then,” came the reply.  The voice was familiar to Reece but she never turned around.

“I was worried. I heard about ...”

Susie cut his sentence short. “I saw no reason for you to hurry back. With sadness she touched her cheek.

Gently turning her he studied  Susie’s face, and kissing her reassuringly before drawing her closer to him. “Don’t ever worry sweetheart.” He kissed her lips. “True, I am a glamour photographer, but that’s just work with models. Your scar does not change anything  You’re the woman I love.”

Thursday Tasters - 20 February: Weekend Away

It's Thursday and time for some awesome writers to give a short taster of their amazing work. It can be a WIP or completed work. So please show some love and leave a comment on their work. It helps and encourages each writer. This week my excerpt is from a WIP Weekend Away Enjoy

Unhappy with her life in reality, Rita, thirty and feeling she is going nowhere in life, strikes up a close friendship with another woman she meets online.

Rita Hayes, dressed in her navy pencil skirt suit finally arrived home to her lonely apartment after a long, arduous day at work. She kicked off her stiletto shoes and flung her jacket over a chair. Tiredness consumed her slender body and all she wanted was to shower and relax.

Undoing her red hair from the rather bedraggled bun, that always started off the day neatly coiled at the crown of her head but sagged toward the end of each day she shook her head and reflected on her life.

‭Rita’s‬ present supervisor; not the friendliest of characters, controlled  her working day, and she saw no chance of promotion even after ten years of loyalty.‭ ‬The thirty year old felt like she was running round continually on a hamster wheel.‭

‭R‬arely going out, not that she had much money anyway when all her bills were paid at the end of each month,‭ ‬Rita turned to activities at home, one of which being cooking. And after the recent nasty split with her boyfriend after finding him in a clinch with her best friend,‭  it had become cooking for one. ‬Rita felt wary about starting another relationship.‭

She stood under the shower and let the warm water cascade over her like a healing waterfall that washed away all the troubles of work and made her feel a bit better.‭ ‬Rita let out a weary sigh.‭ “‬I have got to get away,‭” ‬she said,‭ ‬even though she was alone in the flat now.‭

After her shower,‭ ‬she wound a toweling dressing gown around her and brushed her long red hair, with droplets of water being soaked up by the towelling.‭

Rita put her slippers on and mooched into the kitchen to make herself a sandwich,‭ and pour a glass of wine, Carefully carrying both into the lounge she sank into her favorite‬ comfy chair.‭ On switching her laptop on Rita smiled and her emerald green eyes sparkled ‬with pleasure as she saw a message from Belinda.‭

She had been friends with Belinda for the past three years,‭ ‬conversing with her most days through the Internet.‭ ‬Belinda also lived alone,‭ ‬separated from her husband and about sixty miles from Rita.‭ ‬They had laughed and cried through their emails and shared many secrets,‭ ‬but had never actually met. This message was just what she needed.

Sharon peeled the clothes from her weary body after a long hot busy day. The late summer evening, oppressive in its humidity made her feel hot and sticky, even with every window open. Barely any breeze filtered in.

After a much-needed shower, Sharon came  into the bedroom and laid down on the the bed, . She had not bothered to dress, no one could see in and she still felt too hot anyhow.

Sharon’s head sank into a soft pillow. She closed her eyes and thought about Tony.

Suddenly, Sharon felt strong, masculine hands touched her shoulders that gently manipulation and eased the stresses of the day into nothingness.

She murmured, by the waves shimmering  travelled down her spine and waves of pleasure consumed Sharon’s  body. Expert fingertip strokes coaxed moisture to pool inside her pussy.

“Love you, Tony.”   She strained for his echoing reply.

He spoke no words but she could feel his warm breath fall, resting and making goose pimples rise on the nape of her neck. He continued working his way down her silken flesh, stopping at her perfectly formed butt. Sharon rolled over and reached her arms out to touch  … the memory of Tony

Cool breezes fluttered through her long dark hair as Princess Iona perched, naked on a rock amid the waves. Clouds were forming as though in agreement with the Elders of Erythrea, who said her waiting seemed futile.

“Troy’s gone,” they had told her. “You have Royal duties and should stop dreaming. Curb your rebellious ways."

True, I am a rebel, Iona thought as she preened herself. My markings are proof of that. However I have known love. And Troy promised to return. Looking up she saw a ship on the horizon. Her heart flipped. Is it? Could it be ...?

Thursday Tasters - 13 February: Madeleine

It's Thursday and time again for some awesome writers to give you a taster of a WIP or short excerpt of a completed work. Please show these talented writers some love and encouragement by reading and leaving a comment on their work.

This week I chose a taster from my WIP Madeleine. Enjoy

Thursday Tasters

Blurb:
Victorian England. Madeleine, daughter of a wealthy banker  has just received a  letter from a secret lover.

Late spring, in Victorian England, and mother nature was running it’s course.. The golden trumpet daffodils were on their way out and being replaced by multicoloured tulips that furiously bobbed their heads in the wind.  Just outside of Madeleine's room, the delicate pink blossom on a cherry tree struggled to remain attached to branches owing to wily breezes that tried to coax them from it.

Stray wisps found their way through an open window and, like tendrils, tangled with Madeleine’s long dark hair, and like whispering gossamer blew strands across her pale, elfin face as she lay on her bed.

Lying outstretched with her head sinking into the plump downy pillow Madeleine brushed the stray strands from across her cheek, closed her eyes and thanked God she had been first up this morning and retrieved the mail. She sied and held the precious letter to her breast, by now having memorized every loving word that had been written. Speaking them softly she rolled the letter along the lace of her dress grazing her nipples through the cloth and pressed it against her rapid pulsing heart, wishing Lawrence was near.

Murmuring softly, she felt warm, comforting feelings overwhelmed her body, which echoed the love she felt. A delicate hand trailed slowly down the silk gown, as she enjoyed the feelings of her own arousal, and smiling, she parted both legs a little, acknowledging the familiar moisture that welled and  in  her body sighed. “Oh Lawrence,” she sighed. “I long for the day we can be together , and  the hand that touches me is yours.”

Grant jerked at his tie and pulled off the offending article shoving it in his jacket pocket.

“Mind if I join you?” he said to a slender woman in a cocktail dress who was perching jauntily on her bar stool.

Her Chanel no 5 perfume intoxicated him.

“Be my guest,” replied the cool blonde idly indicating to the adjacent stool, but she seemed more interested in dallying an olive around  her Martini glass that sat on the bar in front of her.

Grant watched her surreptitiously from the corner of his eye as she trailed the olive slowly around her pale pink lips, leaving them wet and glistening, before eating it.

Noticing a stray droplet falling down onto her throat, Grant instinctively put out a finger, catching it.

“Mmm,” he murmured, sucking on his finger.

Twisting her stool, back to the bar Grant stood. Slipping an arm around he gently tipped her, his warm aroused breath dropping gently onto the head that now rested with long hair flowing behind on the bar.

He delivered the gentlest of butterfly kisses to hers and she smiled.

“I’ve loved you for so long. That Valentine kiss was everything I dreamed it would be.”

Tears stained the fair cheeks of Fallon’s face as she fell down, hair strewn, crying. Realizing that she didn’t  belong, she felt so unhappy. Expectancies were too much. All she longed for now was Connor and home.

The others had persuaded Fallon to have a tattoo. Maybe she could love it’s beauty but what mattered was the others did not seem to care about how much the needle would hurt her fragile skin. Trust was  broken and she had run away.

“I heard your call,” a voice suddenly said. “Please come back with me to the fae community.”

Thursday Tasters - 6 February: The Inheritance

It's Thursday again so that means time for a taste of some awesome writing. A group of writers allow you to sample a short excerpt of their wonderful writing. It may be from a completed work or WIP. So please show some love by following the link, reading and leaving a comment.

Thursday Tasters

This week my taster is from a WIP with a working title, The Inheritance. This is a paranormal story about the life of Frank, a man who with recent werewolf status, struggles to lead as normal a life as possible. In this excerpt, Frank awakens somewhere outside, wondering what happened the previous night. Enjoy.

Frank awoke suddenly,‭ ‬and shifted slightly from the foetal position he was in,‭ ‬aware of damp grass beneath him.‭ ‬He gave a loud yawn.‭ ‬Struggling to open his eyes in the early morning light he shivered,‭ ‬even though the sun was shining directly into his face.‭ ‬Stretching out,‭ ‬he caught an arm on a straggly branch of the overhanging hedge.‭

"Ouch‭!" ‬He exclaimed,‭ ‬withdrawing it again quickly.‭ ‬Then looking down he was dismayed in finding himself naked yet again.‭ ‬Suddenly he felt overcome with fear,‭ ‬trying to remember what had happened the previous night.
Getting gingerly up on his haunches and smoothing down his matted long dark hair,‭ ‬he looked desperately about him for any evidence to help him remember,‭ ‬and to ascertain exactly where he was.‭ ‬However,‭ ‬the only thing was a few smears of blood on his torso,‭ ‬obviously not his own.

‭"‬You all right there son‭?" ‬A deep voice boomed out.

Frank looked up to see who was talking.‭ ‬A weathered,‭ ‬ruddy faced man was leaning over the hedge,‭ ‬looking down on him.‭ ‬Frank reckoned he was a farmer.‭ ‬He quickly put his hands in front of him covering his embarrassment.‭ "‬I...err I lost my clothes.‭"

"Hang on,‭ ‬I've got an old jacket here you can borrow.‭ ‬My,‭ ‬that must have been some argument you had,‭ ‬if she threw you out with no clothes.‭" ‬He passed Frank an old smelly donkey jacket as he continued.‭ "‬But how the hell did you get here‭?"

"I can't really remember,‭" ‬Frank replied quickly,‭ ‬putting the jacket on.‭ ‬He was in no mood for conversation.‭ ‬His only thoughts were of getting back home.‭ "‬Thanks for the loan‭; ‬I'll return it as soon as I can.‭"

"No hurries son,‭ ‬you take care,‭ ‬and I hope you make up with her.‭" ‬The farmer called after Frank as he saw him disappearing,‭ ‬stumbling along a lane.

Tantalizing Tuesday - 4 February: The Cave

Sunlight followed them in as the couple walked into the enormous cave and surveyed the interior. The rock formation had weathered quite dramatically over ther years and moss had formed everywhere. Water managed to find it’s way in from on high creating a waterfall that fell into a tributary that flowed along to the nearby sea.

“Wow!” Kieron exclaimed in wonder and delight. He waved his arms all around as he looked.“It’s perfect, almost mystical.” He turned to look at Lara. “Come on, hurry up. Let’s go further back.

Lara, however did not seem to share Kieron’s enthusiasm. “I can’t. I’ve stubbed my toe,” she moaned.

Kieron took pity and went to help her.  He put his arm around Lara’s waist and she held on to his shoulder and hopped as he helped her to a suitable place to sit down. She shivered, so Kieron took off his jacket and placed it around Lara’s shoulders and kissed her. She pulled it closer around her.

“Mmm. I love and would do anything for you Kieron, but clambering over rocks to help you research your latest adventure book is not my idea of fun.”
